Forever Different. Still The Same.

I sat
fearing
the idea
of “coming home.”

Am I not already there?

Fear of returning—
the possibility
of being pulled
by that old current of
comforts.

Fear that the old
could somehow
change me
back, or
take away
what I have
now seen.

Suck me in,
to all that muck.

But we return
imprinted
by the new,
forever.

Forever different,
and still the same.

And it is returning,
rather than retreating,
that becomes the bravest
act of all.
